Two years ago...

“We have an issue,” The HR director, Nattie, briskly walked into Julian’s office.

Julian didn’t care for Nattie. Her high-strung, always-right attitude never sat well with him. Her particularly sly remarks to him along the lines of, ‘It’s your company...’ really irritated him. Oh, she had no problem with authority, if the person was older than she was.

She had a real issue when it was someone young enough to be her child. “What’s the issue?”

Nattie promptly sat down at Julian’s desk without him extending an invite, causing Julian to raise an eyebrow. “This,” she handed a photograph to him.

Julian grabbed the photograph and held Nattie’s eyes for a brief moment, wondering why she was wasting his time. She was always turned up to an eleven, and he wondered how she managed to get pregnant with what he was sure was a demon spawn growing inside her tummy.

He let out a small sigh and relaxed his shoulders before he turned his attention to the photograph. A deep purple Afro was the first thing he spotted, followed by a single sleeve tattoo on her right arm. She wore a tank top and torn jeans, though she wasn’t showing anything provocative. On her left arm, was portrait tattoo of a young black girl that intrigued Julian.

She wore dark purple lipstick that complemented her café au lait skin tone. Her light brown eyes sparkled with... what was it, exactly?—intrigue? Curiosity? Or that peculiar one that made Julian very aware of what was going on inside his slacks—lust?

She looked like a goddess. He wanted to bury his face in her neck, play with her hair, and kiss every inch of her body. His body suddenly felt like a ticking time bomb just waiting to detonate at any time. A flurry of passion started at his toes and traveled up to his mouth, where only one phrase pushed out. “Mi alma...”

Julian knew right then and there he was in love.

He kept his eyes focused on the picture and knew he had to get to know the mysterious new intern. He suddenly wanted to know everything about her. What was her favorite color? What did she like to do in her free time? What were her pet peeves? What were her turn-ons? What made her happy? How could he always keep that smile on her?

“...and I told her that was unacceptable attire here...”

Julian came back down to earth as he remembered Nattie was in front of him. “What?”

“I pulled her into my office and told her that was unacceptable attire here,” Nattie shook her head, “She complained that there was nothing wrong with her outfit and she’d seen others show skin, but I disagreed. I also suggested she do something with her hair and make it as normal as possible.”

“Her hair is fine,” Julian defended. He glanced down at the picture of her again. Other than the Jimi Hendrix sleeveless tank she wore, nothing of the woman’s outfit was inappropriate. “Where is she?”

“She’s at her desk working,” Nattie’s eyes twinkled with a bit of mischief and Julian caught it.
